Tax-deferred annuities can be a smart addition to your retirement planning picture.

About Annuities
Annuities are an investment vehicle designed to help you save for retirement and provide retirement income. During the accumulation phase you can make unlimited contributions and your earnings will grow tax-deferred until withdrawal. At distribution, you can opt for a lump sum or monthly payments for life or a specified period.

Tax advantages - Earnings grow tax-deferred and no annual tax reporting is required until withdrawal. Your tax consultant may be able to leverage annuities to help you avoid probate process and delays.

Flexibility - You determine the contribution amount and payout options that best fit your current and planned financial lifestyle. Unlike IRA and other retirement plan options, distributions are not mandated at a certain age and will not reduce your Social Security income prior to distribution.

Types of Tax-Deferred Annuities

• Fixed annuity - provides a guaranteed rate of return on investment.
• Indexed annuity - is "indexed" to the stock or bond market and provides a guaranteed minimum return.
• Variable annuity - has a rate of return that varies depending on the type of investment accounts in which you place your funds.
• Immediate annuity - is usually purchased with a single premium where income payments typically begin soon after the annuity is purchased.
