Ridgefield Bank Donation Helps Restore Ballard Park Gates

July 25, 2007 -
(Left) Jill Maguire, Assistant Vice President, Business Development,
at Ridgefield Bank, poses with Robert Blake, owner of TruePresence
in Ridgefield, in front of the gates to Ballard Park. Mr. Blake is a
member of the Friends of Ballad Park which formed in January 2005.
For the past two years, the initiative has been raising money to
“spruce up” the historic landmark. Many parts of the project
have been completed including new fencing for the playground and
formal gardens, a new entrance from the parking lot, the gazebo has
been re-roofed and repainted, and many old or diseased trees have
been removed. Ridgefield Bank provided a donation to repair and
restore the historic wrought iron main gates and pedestrian gate
along Main Street. These gates, which were built in 1883 and
have graced the entrances ever since, were badly in need of repair.
During the past year, they have been rebuilt, re-aligned, re-welded
and re-painted. The first gate was re-installed on July 10,
and the other gate will be re-installed later this month.
